About the author

Vilhelms Purvītis (1872–1945) – one of the most outstanding Latvian painters, he is considered the founder of the Latvian landscape painting school.

His works vividly reveal the beauty of Latvia’s natural environment—spring floods, birch groves, rivers, and snowy landscapes.

Purvītis was also the founder and first rector of the Latvian Academy of Art, making a significant contribution to the development of professional art in Latvia.
